Lectio Magistralis “End of Diplomacy?” – Sacred Heart Catholic University

To celebrate ten years in Brescia of the bachelor’s degree program in Political and International Sciences, the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences invited Ambassador Pasquale Ferrara, former Political Director at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021-2025), to give a lectio magistralis.

Pasquale Ferrara, Ambassador, former Political Director at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021-2025). He served as Special Envoy for Libya. He held four-year assignments abroad, notably in Santiago de Chile, Athens, Brussels (European Union), Washington, and in Algiers as Ambassador of Italy (2016-2020). From 2011 to 2016 he served as Secretary General of the European University Institute in Florence. He was recently appointed President of the think-tank Reset – Dialogues on Civilizations.

For many years he combined diplomatic service with intensive academic and research work on the theory and practice of international relations. Among his published volumes: The Preventive State. Securitarian Democracy and Democratic Security, 2010; Global Religions and International Relations. A Diplomatic Perspective, 2014; Interworld Politics. International Relations in the Post-Global Era, 2014; Francis’ World. Bergoglio and International Politics, 2016; Seeking an Innocent Country. Possible Peace in a Shattered World, 2023.
